Point Park University announces 2010-11 basketball broadcast schedule

Fifty-one games to be broadcast live on internet radio

PITTSBURGH – The Point Park University athletic department announced today that 26 men’s basketball games and 25 women’s basketball games will be broadcast live on internet radio during the 2010-11 seasons.

Each broadcast will be carried live by the Point Park University student radio station WPPJ AM-670. In a partnership with the MSA Sports Network, each of WPPJ’s broadcasts will be simulcast live on internet radio.

At a later date, links to broadcasts will be available on the Point Park University men's and women's basketball schedules at www.pointpark.edu/athletics and at www.msasportsnetwork.com. All games will be available live at the scheduled start time and archived for later access.

The Point Park men’s basketball team will play 28 games this season, and 26 games will be broadcast live. The Pioneers begin their season Nov. 5-6 at the Daemen College Tournament, and all the action for the season-opening weekend can be heard live online.

The Point Park women’s basketball team has 27 games scheduled, and 25 will be carried live. The Pioneers get their season underway Nov. 12-13 at the Bevo Francis Tournament hosted by the Univ. of Rio Grande, and those games will open the broadcast schedule.

Providing play-by-play for the men's and women’s basketball broadcasts this year will be Josh Frketic, who is in his second year as Sports Director at WPPJ and his fourth year on the Pioneers’ broadcasting team. Frketic is a senior broadcasting major at Point Park.

Aaron Cooney will provide color commentary for men’s basketball, and fellow Point Park broadcasting student Kevin Calhoun will be the color voice for women’s basketball.

Each broadcast will feature a pre-game show that will begin 15 minutes prior to tipoff. Tune in early for game previews and starting lineups as well as select interviews from players and coaches. Post-game coverage will include statistical recaps and interviews.

The Point Park men’s basketball team meets Siena Heights in its season opener Nov. 5 at 5:30 p.m. Siena Heights was 22-11 last year and opens the season ranked No. 25 in the NAIA Division II Preseason Top-25 Poll. The Point Park men were 9-16 overall last season.

On the women’s side, Point Park meets host team Rio Grande in the first round of the Bevo Francis Tournament Nov. 12. Tipoff is 6 p.m. The Pioneers return four starters from last year’s team that went 14-13 overall.
