T.J. Heatherington named AMC Men's Basketball Player of the Week (Nov. 21-27)

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University's T.J. Heatherington has been named the American Mideast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for Nov. 21 to 27.

The 5-10, junior point guard from McKeesport, Pa., and Serra Catholic High School averaged 32.0 points and 7.5 assists per game in two games last week for the Pioneers (6-4). It is the first time in his career that he earned the award.

For the week, Heatherington shot 53 percent (16 of 30) from the field, 71 percent (5 of 7) from 3-point range and 84 percent (27 of 32) from the free-throw line.

Heatherington finished his week with a career-high 34 points to go along with 10 assists at NCAA Division II Ashland Nov. 23. He nailed 4 of 5 3-pointers in that game. The night before, he had 30 points and made 21 of 24 free throws in a win over Salem International, also an NCAA DII school.

Heatherington leads all of NAIA Division II in total points (262) and total assists (82). On a per-game basis, he is second in scoring (26.2 ppg) and second in assists (8.2 apg). Heatherington also averages a solid 4.5 rebounds per game. He is shooting 44 percent overall, 37 percent from long range and 79 percent from the foul line.

As point guard, Heatherington direcets a Point Park offense that leads the nation in total points (948) and is second in points per game (94.8 ppg).

Heatherington and the Pioneers visit Fisher (MA) on Thursday at 8 p.m. for their American Mideast Conference opener.
