Point Park's Asa Braxton named AMC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University's Asa Braxton shot an amazing 73 percent from the field and 69 percent from long range last week to net American Mideast Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week honors for Jan. 30 to Feb. 5.
Braxton, a 6-2 guard/forward from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Hampton High School, was 14 of 19 from the floor and 9 of 13 from 3-point range in averaging 19.0 ppg in two games last week.
A junior who transferred to Point Park this year, Braxton had a career-high 23 points on an amazing 9 of 10 from the field and 5 of 6 from the outside in an 88-71 win at Wilberforce Jan. 31. He scored 16 points and made four treys in the first half to stake the Pioneers to a 52-34 lead in what was an important conference win.
He got a starting nod at Houghton on Saturday and turned in 15 points on 5 of 9 from the floor and 4 of 7 from distance. Point Park (11-9, 4-4 AMC) won that game, 83-61, and clinched an AMC playoff spot. F
or the year, Braxton has played in all 20 games with eight starts and 6.4 points per game. He is shooting 37 percent (21 of 57) from 3-point territory. He played at Seton Hill previously.
Braxton and the Pioneers continue AMC play at Walsh on Tuesday (8 p.m.).
