Point Park men lose at Wilberfoce in AMC Tournament Semifinals, 91-76

The Point Park University men's basketball team lost at Wilberforce, 91-76, in the AMC Tournament Semfinals Tuesday night. Devon Alexander led the Pioneers with 28 points and finishes his career with 1,002. He is the 18th player in school history to reach 1,000 points.

Asa Braxton added 14 points for the Pioneers, who end their season at 13-12 overall. Point Park was 6-6 AMC and entered the playoffs as winners of four of their last six.

Wilberforce (13-18), which led, 42-33, at halftime, advances to the AMC Finals to play top seed Daemen (19-10). Feb. 25. The Bulldogs got 31 points from guard Darius Foster and built a 31-21 lead with 5:51 left in the first half.

The Bulldogs raced out to an 18-4 lead behind the hot shooting of Foster, who made 5 of 6 3-pointers on the night. Terrance Morgan totaled 16 points and seven assists, and Ronald Hightower added 13 points and nine rebounds.

Wilberforce still led by double digits at 68-57 with 7:41 to play. The Bulldogs extended things to 84-67 with under three minutes to play.

Wilberforce shot 45 percent overall and Point Park shot 37 percent. The Pioneers made eight treys, but they came on 27 attempts and 29-percent accuracy (8 for 27). Robbie Heatherington tallied 10 points for the Pioneers, and Dante Anglin had a game-high 10 rebounds.

Wilberforce improved to 6-1 at home this year vs. AMC opponents. Point Park was the only AMC team to win there, 88-71, Jan. 31. Wilberforce won at Point Park, 92-80, Jan. 7.

The AMC Tournament Champion receives the league's lone automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament at Point Lookout, Mo., March 7-13. National qualifiers and bracket announced Feb. 29.
