Point Park sits four shots off the lead after Rd 1 of Allegheny Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team had four players shoot in the 70s led by Brad Frank's even-par 72 and sits in fourth place, just four shots off the lead after Sunday's first round of the Kuhn Invitational hosted by Allegheny College.

The Pioneers' team score of 299 is four shots back of host Allegheny and Carnegie Mellon, which each had 295 after 18 holes. Point Park is scheduled for final round play at The Country Club in Meadville, Pa., Monday at 9:37 a.m.
McDaniel College is in third place at 296. The tournament field consists of 16 teams.
Frank, a senior who transferred from Duquesne University, is in a tie for third place in the individual standings. The Pleasant Hills, Pa., native was one of eight players to shoot par or better, and he is one stroke off the lead shared by Ian Bangor (71) of Carnegie Mellon and Paul Kovalcheck of McDaniel. Frank shot 37-35--72.
Sophomore Austin Elder, Point Park's only returning player to compete Sunday, shot a 2-over 74. The Warren, Ohio, native carded a 40 on the front nine and 34 on the back.
Freshman Chris Bowen of Bethel Park, Pa., shot a 75 in his first collegiate round. Fellow freshman James Daley from Youngstown, Ohio, carded a 78 to round out the Pioneers' team score. Junior Alejandro Bernardini, a transfer from Univ. of South Carolina-Aiken and a native of Mexico, could not get any putts to fall and shot 81.
The Point Park University men's golf team is in its second year of competition since being reinstated last year. The Pioneers competed in golf from 1967-72, but the program was doormant until 2009.
