Point Park men's golf places second at Westminster Invitational

NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team placed second at the Westminster Fall Invitational held Monday at New Castle Country Club. Tournament Results


Austin Elder (pictured), a sophomore from Warren, Ohio, shot a 78 (+6) to lead Point Park to a team score of 327, which was five shots back of the champion, Malone University's B Team.

The tournament was played in a constant rain, and the medalist shot a five-over 77. Grove City finished third with 334.

The second-place showing was the second straight high finish for Point Park, which won the team championship at the La Roche Invitational last Monday.

Freshman James Daley (Youngstown, OH/Ursuline) shot an 81 for Point Park follwed by an 83 from fellow freshman Chris Bowen (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park).

Junior Alejandro Bernardini, a native of Mexico and a transfer from South Carolina-Aiken, has been hampered by a back injury and turned in an 85.

Freshman Chris Cichra (Mt. Lebanon/Mt. Lebanon) shot a 96 in his first collegiate tournament action.

Point Park visits the Mercyhurst Invitational this Saturday and Sunday. The tournament will be played at Downing Golf Club in Harbor Creek, Pa.
