RICHMOND, Ky. -- The Point Park University men's golf team led by 22 shots over the eight-team field after Monday's first round of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Golf Tournament and also got off to a good start in the first half of the second round, which was also played Monday at Gibson Bay Country Club.

The Pioneers shot a team score of 294 (+6) over the first 18 holes on Monday. A total of 27 holes were played on Day 1 of the two-day tournament, and Point Park is also off to a strong start over the first nine holes of the second round.

Point Park's 22-shot lead after 18 holes put them well out in front of the nearest competitors of Asbury (Ky.) (316), Brescia (Ky.) (317) and Indiana East (318). Not only that, the Pioneers have four players at +4 or better at the midway point of their second rounds. Team scores had not yet been tabulated through 27 holes as Day 1 ended.

Chris Bowen, a junior from Bethel Park, Pa., shot a team-best round of even-par 72 over the first 18 holes. Through 27 holes, Bowen is tied with teammates Austin Elder and Billy Wivell at 4-over through 27 holes. Point Park's best score over 27 holes belongs to sophomore Collin Holmes, who is 3-over at the midway point of the 54-hole tournament.

Holmes shot a team-high score of 77 over the first 18 holes but came back with a 2-under 34 on his third 9 of the day. Elder shot 74 the first round, and Wivell shot 73. James Daley is at 8-over for the tournament although he shot a very solid 75 over the first 18 holes.

The final day of the tournament will include another 27 holes on Tuesday with the team leaders teeing off at 8 a.m. Point Park is seeking its first NAIA national tournament bid since 1969, and the KIAC Tournament champion gets the conference's automatic invitation.
