RICHMOND, Ky. -- Point Park University men's golf leads the Berea (Ky.) College Spring Tee-Off by 14 strokes after shooting a team score or 309 in the first round on Friday at Battlefield Golf Club in Richmond, Ky.

Point Park's James Daley leads the tournament individually with a first-round 74, which is one shot ahead of Luke Rose of Asbury (Ky.). The Pioneers' Steve Veydt is third with an opening 76, and teammate Chris Bowen is fourth with a 78.

Point Park's other participants are Collin Holmes, who is tied for eighth with an 81, and Eric Poplowski, who is just outside the top 10 with an 82. Michael Popovec competed as an individual for Point Park and shot 81.

Conditions were very tough for scoring with winds at 35 miles per hour and rain. Of the more than 40 players in the field, only six broke 80, and three of them were from Point Park.

With a team score of 309, Point Park is 14 shots ahead of second-place Asbury (Ky.) at 323. Next in line are IU East (328), Hiwassee (Tenn.) (329), Bryan (Tenn.) (333), Cincinnati Christian (335) and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) (390). Host Berea (Ky.) did not have enough players for a team score.

The tournament is the first of the spring season for Point Park, the defending KIAC tournament champions and 2013 NAIA national tournament qualifiers. This weekend's even is a preview of the KIAC tournament with six of the seven KIAC teams in attendance.

The final round of the tournament is Saturday with Point Park's tee time of 9 a.m. ET. Follow the Pioneers on Twitter @PointParkSports.
