Point Park men's golf takes 3rd at CMU Edward Jones Shootout at The Links

APOLLO, Pa. -- Point Park University men's golf came away with a high finish of third place at the Edward Jones Shootout hosted by Carnegie Mellon University Saturday and Sunday at The Links at Spring Church.
The Pioneers shot their best round of the spring season on Sunday with a team score of 300 in the final round. Point Park, which was in second place after Saturday's first round with a 304, was edged out for second place by St. Vincent, which followed its first-round 305 with a 298 on Sunday to beat the Pioneers by a stoke.
Host school Carnegie Mellon won the tournament by a wide margin with rounds of 295 and 288 to take the team title. The Tartans had three of the top five individual finishers, and the medalist came from their B team, Adrian Del Bosque at 1-under 139 (67-72) for the tournament.
Point Park senior Collin Holmes, from Avon Lake, Ohio, earned a Top 10 finish as his rounds of 74-75 were good for a tie for seventh place individually.
Eric Poplowski and Ben Kennedy shot the best rounds for the Pioneers on Sunday. Both players shot 74 on day two to place tied for 14th and 22nd, respectively. Diego Ortiz and Kaminsky each shot 77 as Point Park had all five players shoot in the 70s.
The Pioneers had a total of seven players in the field with Noah Zamagias (T28th) and Michael Popovec (T31st) competing in the individual division.
Point Park's next competition is Tuesday and is also hosted by CMU. The Carnegie Mellon Invitational will be at the Longue Vue Club at 10 a.m. It is the Pioneers' final event before the KIAC Tournament April 24-25 in Libetry, Ind.
