Point Park Men's Golf takes 4th at CMU, Holmes named KIAC Golfer of the Week

Collins Holmes has been Point Park's top finisher in the last two tournaments.
VERONA, Pa. -- Point Park University men's golf placed fourth at the Carnegie Mellon Spring Invite on Tuesday (April 14) at the Longue Vue Club, and it was once again senior Collin Holmes leading the Pioneers with a 3-over 73 to place in a tie for sixth individually.
Holmes, from Avon Lake, Ohio, led the Pioneers for the second straight tournament and garnered his second Top 10 finish in a row. For that strong play, he was named the KIAC Men's Golfer of the Week by the conference office on Monday, April 13. he also tied for seventh last weekend at the Edward Jones Shootout hosted by CMU with rounds of 74 and 75.
On Tuesday at Longue Vue, Holmes was one of three Pioneers in the Top 10 as freshman Max Kaminsky carded a 73 to tie for sixth as well. Junior Diego Ortiz was two shots back in the tie for eighth at 75.
Holmes and Kaminsky set the pace for the Pioneers on the 6,683-yard, Par 70 layout. They were four shots behind of individual winner Brian Giesler of Grove City, who shot a 1-under 69. He was the only player to shoot par or better in the tournament.
The three Top 10s for Point Park led the way to the team score of 303. That was three shots behind team champ Grove City at 300. St. Vincent was next at 301 followed by California (Pa.) at 302. Eric Poplowski and Ben Kennedy both shot 82 for the Pioneers.
Point Park's next competition is the KIAC Tournament April 24-25 at Liberty Country Club in Liberty, Ind. The winner of the conference tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship May 19-22 at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla. Point Park has won the KIAC Tournament two straight years.
