PITTSBURGH – Point Park University men’s golf head coach Gabe Bubon has signed Collin Holmes, a state qualifier from Avon Lake, Ohio, who will be a freshman for the Pioneers in the fall of 2011.
Holmes was a four-year player at Avon Lake High School, and he was the team’s No.1 player the last two seasons. A three-time district qualifier, Holmes placed 37th at the state tournament as a senior. He was named the MVP of the Southwest Conference.
Holmes owns a handicap of 1.8, and his high school scoring average was 36.5 over nine holes.
“Collin has a lot of experience, and he comes from a winning program,” said Bubon. “He has good size, and can really develop. Collin is a strong addition to our team, and he has a real chance to crack our top five.”
The Point Park men’s golf program just completed its second season after being reinstated in the summer of 2009. Point Park, which finished third at the American Mideast Conference tournament this year, had not sponsored golf since 1972.
