Point Park men's golf in second place after first round at Shawnee State

McDERMOTT, Ohio – The Point Park University men’s golf team opened its spring season Friday, and the Pioneers stand in second place after putting together a team score of 302 in the first round of the Shawnee State Invitational. The tournament is being held at Elks Country Club.
The Pioneers had four players shoot in the 70s led by sophomore James Daley’s 2-over 72. They trail first-place Cedarville (297) by five strokes in the team standings. Spring Arbor is in third place at 304, which is eight strokes better than host Shawnee State in fourth. The final round is Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. There are eight teams in the tournament field.
Point Park’s Austin Elder and Alex Bernardini each shot 75, and Chris Cichra posted a 78 to round out the team score of 302. Chris Bowen came in with an 80.
Daley’s 74 puts him in a tie for third place individually while Elder and Bernardini are tied for sixth. Cedarville’s Brigham Michaud shot even-par 72 to lead the field.
The Shawnee State Invitational is the first of seven tournaments for the Pioneers this spring.
