Pioneers open fall season on Day 1 at Kuhn Invitational

MEADVILLE, Pa. - The Point Park University's men's golf team competed for the first time in nearly four decades Sunday at the Kuhn Invitational hosted by Allegheny College.
The Pioneers reinstated their men's golf program this year after a 37-year hiatus, and Sunday was opening event on their fall schedule. All five of Point Park's golfers were competing in their first collegiate golf tournament.
The first round of the two-day event was held Sunday, and after 18 holes at The Country Club in Meadville, Pa., the Pioneers are in 18th place out of 18 teams.
Freshman Austin Elder, a native of Warren, Ohio, shot an 80 on the par-72, 6,628-yard layout to lead Point Park. Elder went out in 39 and shot a 41 on the back. He is in 45th place out of 95 players.
Justin Newbauer of California (Pa.) is in first place after firing a 2-under 70. California leads the team competition with a first-round total of 295 (+7).
Second round action begins Monday at 9:30 a.m.
