PITTSBURGH – The recently reinstated Point Park University men’s golf team added two transfers at the start of the spring 2010 semester, reported head coach Gabe Bubon.
Bubon (above, center) announced that Alex Richert (right), a native of Shaler, and Nick Wukich (left), a native of Sewickley joined the Pioneers last month, and both will be eligible to play right away.
Point Park is just a month or so away from beginning its first spring season in nearly four decades. The men’s golf team was reinstated last summer after a 37-year hiatus. Point Park competed in four events last fall, but golf is officially a spring sport as recognized by the NAIA.
“Alex and Nick give us two golfers who have been around the game of golf for a long time, and their experience will help us,” said Bubon, who was named the head coach of the men’s and women’s golf teams in July. “If they do what they are capable of, we have a chance to do well in tournaments this spring.”
Richert is a 2004 graduate of North Catholic High School. A four-year letter winner in high school, he helped North Catholic to four section titles. Richert, a sophomore, was a member of the Community College of Allegheny County-North golf team in 2007. That year he missed qualifying for the national junior college tournament by four strokes.
Wukich is a 2007 graduate of Quaker Valley High School, where he lettered in golf. Wukich is a sophomore. His sister, Alexis Wukich, won a PIAA golf title several years ago and was a member of the golf team at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Point Park men’s golf team previously competed from 1966-72.
