Point Park men's golf takes third at NCAA Division I Robert Morris Classic

HOPEWELL TWP., Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team placed third at the NCAA Division I Robert Morris University Colonial Classic held Oct. 7-8 at The Club at Shadow Lakes.
St. Francis (Pa.) ran away with the team title with tournament-record rounds of 297 and 292 for a final score of 589. Robert Morris was second at 608 (303-305) followed by Point Park at 622. The Pioneers shot 311 both rounds of the 36-hole tournament.
Eric Poplowski was the highest finisher for Point Park as the junior from Ambridge, Pa., placed in a tie for fifth individually at 5-over 149 for the tournament. Poplowski climbed the leaderboard with a final-round 71 (-1), which was one shot off the best round shto by anyone in the tournament.
Senior Chris Bowen, from Bethel Park, Pa., tied for 12th at 12-over 156. Bowen recovered from an 81 on a tough first day of scoring to shoot 75 in the final round.
Point Park also had Kevin Loutsenhizer (+14) tie for 16th and Steve Veydt (+21) tie for 23rd. Collin Holmes, who shot a strong round of 76 over the first 18 holes, had to withdraw due to injury during day two.
Point Park's final tournament of the fall season is Oct. 13-14 at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational. The 36-hole tournament will be held at Southpointe Golf Club.
