Point Park men's golf takes 9th of 19 teams at Allegheny Tournament

MEADVILLE, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team shaved 11 strokes off its first-round performance and ended up placing 9th of 19 teams at the Guy Kuhn Invitational hosted by Allegheny College Sunday and Monday.
The Pioneers were in 10th place after a team score of 318 in the first round Sunday. The Pioneers rebounded to shoot 307 in Monday's final round, and it was good enough to move up one spot in the team standings.
Point Park's two-day total of 625 was 30 shots back of team champion Wittenberg (595), one of only two schools under 600 for the tournament. Wittenberg won by four over Rochester (NY) at 599.
In a rather large field featuring 104 individuals, the Pioneers had three players place in the top third. Austin Elder placed in a tie for 13th with a two-day total of 151 (75-76). Elder was six strokes back of the winner, Dylan Lee of Denison (76-69--145).
James Daley tied for 32nd after rounds of 79-77--156. Alejandro Bernardini tied for 36th as he shot 83 in the first round and then rebounded with a 74 in the final round. He was one shot behind Daley at 157.
Chris Bowen turned in a tournament card of 81-82--163, and Billy Wivell was at 84-80--164.
Point Park's next competition is the Mt. Union Tournament scheduled for Sept. 25-26.
