CLARION, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team put together another solid round Monday and placed fifth of 12 teams at the Hal Hansen Tournament hosted by Clarion University at Clarion Oaks Golf Club. The Pioneers shot 303 in Monday's final round after opening up with 302 on Sunday.

Point Park was tied for sixth after 18 holes although it was only two shots shy of tying for second at the time. On a day where some teams dropped back, the Pioneers held steady and moved up one spot on the leaderboard.

NCAA Division II power IUP easily won the tournament by 15 storkes with rounds of 290-293 for a final total of 593. The Crimson Hawks led by 10 after 18 holes. Carnegie Mellon placed second at 598 (300-298) followed by West Chester in third at 602 (302-300), California (Pa.) in fourth at 603 (300-303) and Point Park in fifth at 605 (302-303).

Junior Collin Holmes, from Avon Lake, Ohio, was the top performer for Point Park with a tournament total of 4-over 148. Holmes, one of three returners from the Pioneers' NAIA tournament team last year, shot 74 both days.

Senior Chris Bowen, from Bethel Park, Pa., came in at 5-over 149. His 73 in the first round was the best score for the Pioneers on the weekend, and he shot 76 in the final round.

Newcomers Eric Poplowski and Kevin Loutsenhizer each had a tournament total of 154 (+10). Poplowski, an All-American at CCAC-Allegheny, shot 78-76, and Loutsenhizer, the top player at La Roche for two years, shot a pair of 77s.

Veteran James Daley shot 83-77--160, and Michael Popovec competed as an individual with scores of 82-81--163.

Point Park's next tournament is Sept. 15-16 when it will try to defend its title at the Allegheny Invitational at Meadville Country Club.
