Point Park men's golf places 4th at Malone Spring Classic, Holmes T10th

ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Point Park University men's golf team placed fourth of four teams in a small but good field at the Malone University Spring Classic Friday and Saturday at Tannenhauf Golf Club in Alliance, Ohio.
Collin Holmes, a junior from Avon Lake, Ohio, shot an even-par 72 in the final round Saturday to place tied for 10th individually with a two-day total of 5-over par 149 (77-72).
Point Park shot solid rounds of 304 and 302 over the two days but it was not enough. Host Malone was the team champion by 36 strokes over second-place Mt. Vernon Nazarene. Malone led by 22 shots after a team score of 279 in the first round, and it backed that up with another 279 in Saturday's final round.
In the first round on Friday, Mt. Vernon Nazarene shot 301 followed by Roberts Wesleyan at 300 and Point Park at 304. Mt. Vernon Nazarene took a strong hold of second place with a 293 in the final 18 holes, while Roberts Wesleyan and Point Park stayed at 303 and 302, respectively.
Eric Poplowski and James Daley tied for 12th for Point Park, and they shot the same scores both days -- 74 and 76 -- to finish 6-over par. Chris Bowen carded rounds of 79-78 to place 27th, and Steve Veydt was tied for 29th at 81-80.
Michael Popovec competed as an individual and tied for 38th with rounds of 83 and 82.
Point Park's next event is April 19 at the Mt. Vernon Nazarene Invitational. The next event after that is the KIAC Tournament April 22-23.
