Point Park finishes 4th of 7 teams at Division I RMU Colonial Classic

HOPEWELL TWP., Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team finished fourth of seven teams at the Holiday Inn Pittsburgh Aiport Colonial Classic hostec by Robert Morris on Monday and Tuesday at the Club at Shadow Lakes.
Despite shooting scores that were higher than their season average of 306 entering the tournament, Point Park turned in rounds of 316 and 314 for a two-day total of 630. The Pioneers finished ahead of NCAA Division I schools Wagner (640) and Maryland Eastern Shore (679) as well as Robert Morris' second team (642).
Robert Morris was the team champion at 600 (294-306). Mount Saint Mary's was second at 605 (299-306), and Clarion was third at 617 (308-309).
Point Park's Austin Elder got another top-10 on his resume as the junior from Warren, Ohio, tied for seventh at 7-over 151. Elder shot rounds of 74-77. He arrived at the 77, three above his average, mainly due to a double-bogey on No. 16 and a bogey of the par-5 18th.
Alejandro Bernardini shot a 76 in the final round to move up into a tie for 12th. Bernardini had shot an 80 in the first round and was in 21st place after 18 holes.
Chris Bowen placed 16th at 158 (76-82), followed by James Daley at 165 (86-79) and Steve Veydt at 173 (87-86).
Point Park is in action next at Washington & Jefferson tournament held Oct. 16-17 at Southpointe Golf Club.
The Pioneers had planned to host their Pioneer Invitational Wednesday at home course Quicksilver Golf Club, but the even was cancelled Monday after too many teams dropped out.
