CANONSBURG, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team placed second at the Peter C. Rossin Memorial hosted by Washington & Jefferson College on Sunday and Monday at Southpointe Golf Club.
The Pioneers were tied for first place with tournament champion and host Washington & Jefferson with a score 320 after Sunday's first round. But W&J put together a solid final 18 holes at the challenging Southpointe layout to edge Point Park by 11 shots on the final leaderboard.
The Presidents had three players shoot in the 70s on Monday, but no one from Point Park cracked 80 in the final round. W&J ended with a two-day total of 632 (320-312), and Point Park shot 643 (320-323) over 36 holes.
There were a total of six teams in the tournament. Penn State Behrend was third at 654 followed by St. Vincent (656), Columbus State CC (660) and La Roche (681).
Junior Chris Bowen, from Bethel Park, Pa., led Point Park with a 10th-place finish. Bowen shot 80 both days. Point Park's Billy Wivell (79-82) and Steve Veydt (81-80) tied for 11th at 161. Wivell's opening 79 was the only score under 80 for Point Park in the tournament.
Point Park's final fall tournament will be one that it added to the schedule last week, the Mercyhurst Invitational scheduled for Oct. 13-14 at Downing Country Club, in Erie, Pa.
