Bernardini takes third individually, Point Park places 5th of 9 at CMU Shootout

APOLLO, Pa. -- Alejandro Bernardini placed third individually to lead the Point Park University men's golf team to placing 5th of 9 teams at the Edward Jones Shootout hosted by Carnegie Mellon University this weekend at The Links at Spring Church.
Bernardini had a two-day total of 145 (+5) and was six shots back of the medalist. The native of Mexico was the co-leader after firing an even-par 70 in Saturday's opening round. He shot a final-round 75 on Sunday.
Bernardini's strong play helped Point Park into a tie for third after 18 holes, but the Pioneers fell back to fifth place after the final round. Point Park was three off the lead after Saturday's team score of 300. The Pioneers shot 305 collectively in the final round and had a two-day total of 605.
Point Park was 11 shots back of team champion St. John Fisher, which carded 297 each day for a winning score of 594. Rochester placed second at 598 after shooting 299 both days. Washington & Jefferson came in third at 600 with scores of 303-297.
Point Park's Austin Elder finished in a tie for 8th with a 36-hole score of 149 (+9). He shot rounds of 75-74. Chris Bowen came in at 79-75, James Daley shot 79-81 and Chris Cichra finished at 76-88.
Point Park is in action next weekend at the Lake Erie Spring Invitational at Madison Country Club.
