PITTSBURGH – Billy Wivell, a native of Deer Lakes, Pa., has transferred to Point Park University to be a member of the men’s golf team, announced Point Park head coach Gabe Bubon. Wivell, who will be a junior in the fall of 2011, spent the last two years at CCAC-Allegheny.
Wivell was an NJCAA all-state player at CCAC, where he carded a scoring average of 80.0 last year. He competed for Deer Lakes High School before graduating there in 2008.
“Billy is a good addition to our team,” said Bubon. “He’s a local guy, he has two years of collegiate experience, and he loves the game of golf. And his personality will fit in very well with our team.”
The Point Park University men’s golf team just finished up its second season since being reinstated in the fall of 2009. The Pioneers had not competed in the 37 years before that. But in just its second year back, Point Park men’s golf finished 3rd of 8 teams at the American Mideast Conference Tournament and also won three tournaments in 2010-11. The Pioneers’ home course is Quicksilver Golf Club in Midway, Pa.
