Point Park men's golf places 6th at W&J Tournament at Southpointe GC

CANONSBURG, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's golf team wound up with a sixth-place finish out of nine teams at the Peter C. Rossin Memorial Golf Tournament hosted by Washington & Jefferson College Sunday and Monday at the challenging Southpointe Golf Club.
Southpointe, home of the Nationwide Tour's Mylan Classic over Labor Day weekend, yielded only seven rounds in the 70s in the entire tournament. Scores were up across the board, and Point Park turned in rounds of 355 and 346 for a two-day total of 701.
Point Park's season average entering the event was 308.
Denison was the team champion at 653 (321-332) followed by host Washington & Jefferson at 668 (334-334).
Steve Veydt, a sophomore from Cecil, Pa., led Point Park with a tournament total of 173. He shot a 93 in the first round Sunday but bounced back to shoot 80 in the final round. The 80 was the lowest score for any Point Park golfer in the tournament.
Alejandro Bernardini was one shot back of Veydt at 174 (85-89). James Daley was next at 177 followed by Chris Bowen at 178. Michael Popovec carded a score of 181.
Point Park concludes is fall schedule Oct. 22-23 at the California (Pa.) Invitational to be played at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Belle Vernon, Pa.
