PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University swept the KIAC Men's Soccer Player of the Week awards for Oct. 14-20 with senior Matt Dziak (North Versailles/East Allegheny HS) being named the KIAC Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore Max Flick (Beaver Falls, Pa./Geneva College) the KIAC Offensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday (Oct. 21).

Dziak is a senior and a four-year starter at center defense for the Pioneers (9-5-1, 3-0-0 KIAC), who have won six in a row to take control of the KIAC standings. Point Park had another big week defensively, and it was Dziak playing a key role in shutting down some top scorers of opponents to lead the Pioneers to wins over W&J and Brescia (Ky.).

The Point Park defense has given up just three goals during its six-game win streak. One of those was an own goal and another was on a penalty kick. Dziak is the third Point Park player in a row to get the KIAC Defensive Player of the Week honor with goalkeeper Derrik Whiten taking it home the last two times.

Flick, a sophomore outside midfielder, had an outstanding overall game in the 6-1 win over Brescia (Ky.) last Saturday. A transfer this year from Geneva, Flick had two goals and set up teammate Lucas Silva for two others as the Pioneers got the big win to clinch the KIAC regular season title.

Flick has six goals, five assists and 17 points on the year for the high-scoring Pioneers, who are 13th in the NAIA in goals per game at 3.40. Flick and Dziak are two of the three players who have started all 15 games with the other being captain Jonty Loukes.

Point Park hosts Grove City in a local, non-conference game tonight (Oct. 22) at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is 5 p.m.
