BEREA, Ky. -- The Point Park University men's soccer team got its offense going on Sunday in an 8-0 victory at Berea (Ky.). The Pioneers (1-2, 1-0) won their first-ever game in Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with the help of six second-half goals that put things out of reach.

Point Park did not have much offense in losing its first two games, 3-1 at WVU Tech and 3-0 at Roberts Wesleyan. But the Point Park offense, which is filled with plenty of scoring talent, got things going at Berea (2-4, 0-1 KIAC).

Point Park was ahead, 2-0, at halftime. Senior forward Matt Annecchiarico gave Point Park the early lead with his goal in the 18th minute. Senior midfielder Alex Sala made it a 2-0 game just four minutes before halftime. Annecchiarico and Sala each had a goal and an assist.

Then the flurry of goals came after intermission. Newcomers Tyler Sakolsky, Frazer McKinlay and Ousman Jaiteh all scored within the first 15 minutes of the second half. In the last 15 minutes of the game, Romida Nanko scored twice, and Francis Tabi added a goal in between.

Sakolsky picked up a goal and an assist like Annecchiarico and Sala. Lucas Silva and Frazer McKinlay totaled two assists each while Jack Pilkinton had one assist.

The shutout was a nice sight for the Point Park defense, which had some breakdowns in the first two games. Goalkeeper Mitchell Kelman made four saves in the win. Point Park controlled the shots with a 25-8 lead in that category.

Point Park's next game will be its home opener Wed., Sept. 12 vs. Allegheny. Game time is 7 p.m. at Century United South Park Complex.

Fan Vans are available for that game and are free with Student ID. The Fan Van leaves the Student Center Lot at 6 p.m. with return service after the game.
