Westminster takes control near end of first half, cruises to 7-1 win

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. - Westminster took control by scoring two goals late in the first half on its way to a 7-1 victory over Point Park Saturday in a non-conference men's soccer game.
Point Park (0-2) led 1-0 after Westminster had an own goal in the 21st minute. Seven minutes later, the Titans (2-1) tied the score with a goal by Aaron Zavora. Then James Gross scored two unassisted goals in the span of two and a half minutes as Westminster asserted control late in the half.
Gross' first goal came in the 42nd minute, and he tallied his second score 33 seconds before halftime for a 3-1 lead.
Leading 3-1, Westminster extended its lead to 4-1 with 21:37 remaining and scored three goals in the last 12 minutes to make the final margin 7-1.
Point Park opened its season Friday with a 2-0 non-conference loss at Grove City. After two games, the Pioneers' offense is still looking for its first goal.
Gross and Brice Lott each came off the bench to score two goals. The Titans held a 22-9 advantage in shots.
Point Park travels to Washington & Jefferson for a non-conference game Tuesday at 7 p.m.
