Roberts Wesleyan breaks scoreless tie with late goal, tops Point Park, 1-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Roberts Wesleyan College's Jake Schindler scored an unassisted goal 82nd minute to break a scoreless tie and give the Red Raiders and 1-0, American Mideast Conference victory over visitng Point Park in a men's soccer game Saturday night.

In a game that had plenty of playoff implications, Roberts Wesleyan was able to improve to 8-6-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the AMC. Point Park fell to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference with three league games remaining.

Shots were fairly even with Roberts Wesleyan holding a slight edge at 22-19. The Red Raiders had 14 shots on goal compared to 11 for Point Park.

Point Park's leading goal scorer, Manuel Schneckenreither of Austria, had the most chances with seven shots and four shots on goal.

Point Park goalkeeper Zeke O'Donnell, a native of Butler, Pa., made 12 saves in 90 minutes.

Point Park continues AMC play with an important game at home versus Mt. Vernon Nazarene (1-2-1 AMC) Tuesday. Kickoff at Founders Field is 2 p.m.

The Pioneers have the top two teams in the league -- Notre Dame and Houghton -- to close out their conference schedule.

Point Park had a couple of favorable results in AMC play Saturday. Cedarville fell to 2-3 inthe league with a 2-1 loss to NAIA No. 3 Notre Dame (OH). Also, Malone dropped to 2-4 in conference with a 4-0 loss to Houghton. However, both of those teams hold a head-to-head tiebreak over the Pioneers.
