Jan. 5, 2010

PITTSBURGH - Max Kovalchuk has committed to Point Park University where he will be a member of the Pioneers' men's soccer team, announced head coach Jeroen Walstra.

Kovalchuk is a striker from Geibel Catholic High School, and he is a native of Monessen, Pa. He lettered four times at Geibel and was a team captain. Kovalchuk will be a freshman at Point Park in the fall of 2010.

"Max is a skillful player who showed good leadership qualities on the high school level," said Walstra, who completed his third year as Point Park head coach after the 2009 season. "He is a good addition to our program, and we are glad to have him."
