The Cougars were rated No. 4 in the NAIA Top 25 preseason coaches' poll, and they were listed among the 'others receiving votes' category of this week's NAIA men's soccer poll. Mt. Vernon Nazarene finished seventh in the final NAIA poll last year and was picked to win the AMC in the preseason coaches' poll.

"We played okay the first 20 minutes versus a very good team," said Point Park's third-year coach Jeroen Walstra. "We played sound defensively and kept things tight. We got a few goals against and got a little discouraged, but we were still in it at halftime."

Mast scored his first goal with 11:24 gone to give his team a 1-0 lead. With the Cougars leading 3-0, Mast added his second tally in the 63rd minute for a 4-0 lead. Three minutes later, he made it 5-0 by scoring an unassisted goal from 30 yards out.

Mt. Vernon Nazarene held a 29-5 advantage in shots and led 8-0 in corner kicks.

The Point Park offense is still looking for its first goal after four games. The only goal in Point Park's favor came via an own goal in a loss to Westminster.

The Pioneers will try to get on track by hosting Daemen Saturday in its home opener. Kickoff for the AMC game is 4 p.m. at Founders Field in Cheswick.
