Malle, Sagerer named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer players Phil Malle and Wido Sagerer have been named 2011 Daktronics-NAIA Men's Soccer Scholar-Athletes.
The NAIA Scholar-Athlete award is the highest academic honor given out by the NAIA. To be eligible, student-athletes must be a junior or senior with at least a 3.5 grade-point average. Sagerer, a senior, received the award for the second straight year, and Malle, a junior, got the honor in the first year that he was eligible.
Sagerer is a defender from Amtsberg, Germany. He led the Pioneers with a GPA of 3.81 in civil engineering. He appeared in seven games in 2011 and 22 games for his career.
Malle, a defender from Pittsburgh, Pa., and Langely High School, has a 3.78 GPA as an accounting major. In 2011, he appeared in 14 of 18 games and started once. He totaled one goal, one assist and three points.
Point Park was 12-5-1 overall and reached the finals of the American Mideast Conference Tournament this past year.
