Sala and Annecchiarico named Capital One Academic All-District First Team

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer players Alex Sala and Matt Annecchiarico have been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team in the College Division, as selected and announced by the College Sports Information Directors of American on Friday.
The award regonizes top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and also in the classroom. Candidates must have at least a 3.30 GPA and be a standout player on the field. Sala and Annecchiarico meet those standards very well.
Both players will advance for Capital One Academic All-American consideration, which will once again be voted on by College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
Sala, a junior midfielder from Weiler, Austria, carries a 3.37 GPA as a sports, arts and entertainment management major. He has started at midfield his entire career and is an All-AMC first-team player. This season, he totaled seven goals, three assists and 17 points.
Annecchiarico, a junior forward from Woodbridge, Ont., has a 3.38 GPA in accounting. A three-year starter, he tied Sala for third on the team in scoring with identical numbers of seven goals, three assists and 17 points.
The Academic All-District First Team in the College Division is for schools that are NAIA, Canadian or Junior Colleges. The first team included 13 players. Sala was one of our midfielders on the squad, and Annecchiarico was one of four forwards recognized.
Point Park was 12-5-1 this year, tied a school record for wins and reached the AMC Championship Game before losing there to Roberts Wesleyan, 1-0, Nov. 5.
