No. 20 Point Park beats Asbury in OT, will play No. 1 Rio Grande in finals

WILMORE, Ky. -- Point Park University's Lucas Silva scored in the the 93rd minute to break a scoreless tie and send the Pioneers into the KIAC/GCAC Unaffiliated Group Tournament finals with a 1-0, overtime win at Asbury (Ky.) University in the tournament semifinals on Friday night.

Point Park (15-2, 4-0 KIAC), ranked No. 20 in the NAIA and the No. 2 seed in the six-team, single-elimination tournament, moves on to play No. 1 seed Rio Grande (14-1-2) in the tournament finals Saturday, Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Rio Grande, ranked No. 1 in the NAIA, beat No. 4 seed Talladega (Ala.), 5-3, in the other semifinal on Saturday.

No. 3 seed Asbury (8-11) was the pre-determined host of the tournament semifinals and finals and will once again serve as the host for the Point Park-Rio Grande match on Saturday night. The Pioneers and RedStorm will play for the conference's automatic bid to the NAIA national tournament.

Point Park won for the 11th time in a row and the 15th time in its last 16 games thanks to Silva's 25th goal of the year, which was the eighth game-winning goal of the season for the senior forward from Sao Paulo, Brazil. Senior midfielder Jonty Loukes, from Sheffield, England, set up the goal on a through ball.

Point Park held a 12-2 advantage in shots and neither of Asbury's shots registered on goal. The Pioneers had seven shots land on target. Point Park goalkeeper Zak Borzovoy played all 93 minutes but did not need to make any saves.

Point Park is still the only team in the country to beat top-ranked Rio Grande, which was a 2-1 victory for the Pioneers on Sept. 20. Point Park led that game, 2-0, until the 87th minute.
