BOX SCORE / NAIA TOP 25

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Point Park University earned a hard-fought victory by scoring the game's final two goals in a 2-1 victory at Grove City College in a non-conference men's soccer game on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pioneers (12-2, 3-0 KIAC) shook off a 1-0 deficit after three minutes and got goals from Lucas Godinho (42nd minute) and Max Flick (57th minute) to down Grove City (9-5-1).

Minutes after the victory, which tied the team record for wins in a season at 12, the Pioneers learned that they had dropped down one spot in the NAIA Top 25 Poll released Tuesday to No. 23 in the nation. This after Point Park has won eight straight games including five in eight days from Oct. 11-18 and a perfect 4-0 in the rating period of last week.

What's more, conference opponent Rio Grande (10-1-2) has assumed the No. 1 ranking in this week's Top 25 with the only loss being to Point Park, 2-1, a game which the Pioneers led, 2-0.

Point Park was passed in this week's poll by No. 21 Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) (11-1-0), which went from No. 24 to 21, and by Hope International (Cailf.) (12-2-1), which went from No. 25 to 22. Both of those schools experienced one of the higher jumps in the rankings this week with Lindenwood-Belleville getting a 2-0 win over a Missouri Baptist team that is 1-11-2, and Hope International getting wins of 2-0 and 1-0 over Antelope Valley (1-8) and William Jessup (3-8-1), which have four wins combined.

Another big mover in this week's Top 25 was Northwestern Ohio (10-2-1), which went from No. 19 to 16 with its two losses being to Point Park and No. 1 Rio Grande, both by 2-1.

Conditions were wet and sloppy at Grove City's College Field on Tuesday, and Point Park got the better of them to come away with the victory over the nine-win Wolverines. It also re-paid the Wolverines for handing the Pioneers a 2-1, home defeat last year after Point Park led, 1-0, through 82 minutes.

Grove City's Frank Heuber bent in a free kick from 18 yards for the early, 1-0 lead in the third minute. The Pioneers tied things up at the half when Godinho put in his third goal of the year. Teammate Lucas Silva had his shot saved, and Godinho was there for the rebound.

Flick, from Beaver Falls, Pa., took advantage of a turnover for the winning goal. Flick got free for a one-on-one with the keeper and beat him on the 8-yard line in the 57th minute.

Grove City led in shots, 17-14, and put on the offensive in the final 45 minutes with an 11-4 advantage in that department. Point Park goalkeeper Zak Borzovoy made four saves for the victory.
