PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University men's soccer player Lucas Silva has been selected as the KIAC Male Athlete of the Year 2014-15, the conference announced on Tuesday (June 2). Silva was chosen as the top overall male athlete in the KIAC this year after a vote of the league's athletic directors.

Silva had one of the best years ever for a male student-athlete at Point Park, and his outstanding senior season in the fall of 2014 stood out as the top performance in the KIAC in 2014-15.

A senior forward from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Silva led Point Park men's soccer on perhaps its best season ever. He scored a school-record 26 goals, collected six assists and racked up 58 points. That earned him KIAC Offensive Player of the Year honors with 24 more points and 11 more goals than anyone else in the conference.

Silva was tied for first in the NAIA with eight game-winning goals, an important factor in Point Park posting its best record ever at 15-3. The Pioneers were also ranked in the NAIA Top 25 for virtually the entire season with Silva leading the attack.

Silva garnered NAIA All-America Third Team honors as the first Point Park men's soccer player ever to be named an All-American. He was second in the NAIA in total goals (26), goals per game (1.44) and points per game (3.22).

The Pioneers completed a 4-0 KIAC record to claim their third KIAC Regular Season title in a row. That included a 2-1 win over then-No. 7 Rio Grande on the way to first place.

Silva scored an overtime goal to beat Asbury, 1-0, in the KIAC Tournament semifinals. That set up a rematch with then-No. 1 Rio Grande in the finals, which ended Point Park's season with a school record for wins at 15.

For his career, Silva ranks second in Point Park men's soccer history with 44 goals and second with 109 points. He also totaled 21 career assists to rank in the top five of the Pioneers record book.

Silva is continuing his soccer career as a member of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds U23 PDL team this summer. For more information on the Riverhounds and their teams, visit riverhounds.com.
