OWENSBORO, Ky. -- No. 22 Point Park University men's soccer followed a familiar pattern with its shutout victory at Brescia (Ky.) University on Saturday night -- no goals allowed by the defense and three goals for forward Lucas Silva. It all added up to a 7-0, KIAC road win for the Pioneers (11-2, 3-0 KIAC).
Point Park has now won seven in a row to run its victory total to within one of the team record for wins in a season of 12. Five of those wins have come in the last eight days, a brutal stretch of the schedule in which the Pioneers have come out unblemished. The Pioneers also maintained first place in the KIAC at 3-0 with only one more conference game remaining, Nov. 1 at Asbury (Ky.) (0-1 KIAC).
Silva, a senior from Sao Paulo, Brazil, got yet another hat trick on Saturday -- his fourth in the last six games -- to increase his goal total to 21 this season. That ties Chris Heh for the Point Park, single-season goals record of 21 set in 1998. Silva has an amazing 16 goals in his last six games, which includes four hat tricks and a pair of two-goal games.
Of Point Park's seven straight wins, four have come by shutout, and the Pioneers posted their fifth shutout of the year on Saturday night.
Also scoring for Point Park at Brescia (4-8, 1-2 KIAC) were Alain Smit, Dominc Canello, Rejep Muhhammedov and Khaled Zena. Jonty Loukes had two assists, and Lucas Godinho and Canello picked up one assist apiece. The Pioneers led, 4-0, at the half.
Point Park continues its road games for the rest of the season. The Pioneers take their 6-0 road record to Grove City on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
