BOX SCORE

PITTSBURGH -- In its first-ever game at Highmark Stadium, Point Park University men's soccer won big over non-conference Ohio Valley, 9-2, on Saturday afternoon.

Point Park (1-0-1) had seven different players score its nine goals and was up, 6-2, at the half. Dominic Canello scored all three of his goals in the first half, and his tally in the 45th minute put the Pioneers on top by four going into the locker room.

The Pioneers didn't waste anytime scoring as Frazer McKinlay scored the first-ever goal by a Point Park player in a regular-season game at Highmark Stadium just 3:19 after kickoff.

Ohio Valley, which as playing its season opener and was 0-16 last year, tied things up at 1-1 on Matthew Firestone's tally just 26 seconds after McKinlay's opening tally.

But freshman defender Paul Carr put the Pioneers up for good after 5:02 had elapsed. After Canello put in his first two goals in the 16th and 19th minutes, the rout was in the making.

Ohio Valley, an NCAA Division II school, did get within 4-2 on Alex Einsman's strike in the 23rd minute, but goals by Lucas Silva and Canello the last five minutes of the half stretched things out.

Point Park did not add on to the lead until the game's final minutes when Ousman Jaiteh (83'), Gabriel Colombo (89') and Anil Kapur ('89) got on the board.

Canello had an assist to go with his three goals. Silva had a goal and two assists. Jaiteh and Colombo each had a goal and an assist. Max Flick, Brett Gwosden and Jonty Loukes recorded one assist apiece.

Point Park led in shots 21-8 and in corners, 7-0. Derrick Whiten played all 90 minutes in goal with four saves and two goals against.

The Pioneers continue non-conference games for the entire month of September with a home game versus Salem International Tuesday at 5 p.m. Admission is Free at Highmark Stadium.
