PITTSBURGH -- Grove City College scored two goals the final eight minutes to come away with a 2-1, non-conference victory over Point Park University in a men's soccer game Tuesday at Highmark Stadium.
The teams played to a 0-0 tie the first 45 minutes, and Point Park (9-6-1, 3-0-0 KIAC) took control on a goal by Jonty Loukes in the 64th minute. The Pioneers were still in control in the late stages of the game until Grove City (7-5-3, 3-1-1 PAC) tied things up when Seth Loew banged home a loose ball in front of the net for the tying goal in the 82nd minute.
Grove City continued to turn the tide just three minutes later when Frank Hueber scored off a rebound on a corner kick to steal the game away from the Pioneers in the 84th minute.
It was a disappointing result for Point Park, which had its six-game win streak stopped. The Pioneers have one more regular season game left, which is at home Saturday versus KIAC opponent Berea (Ky.) for Senior Day at 12 p.m.
Loukes got free for the game's first goal when Romida Nanko fed him a nice assist along the 8-yard line, and Loukes finished the play. That broke the scoreless tie although GCC had a goal waived off in the 25th minute for offsides.
Point Park ended up with a 17-7 advantage in shots. The Pioneers narrowly missed a few chances to build on their 1-0 lead as they hit two crossbars and one post in the second half.
Point Park has already locked up the KIAC regular season title and will be one of the top seeds in the KIAC/GCAC Tournament. The Senior Day game versus Berea will be broadcast live on the Point Park Sports Network on Saturday at 12 p.m. WATCH LIVE
