PITTSBURGH -- With four goals and nine points in the first two games of the season, Point Park University sophomore midfielder/forward Dominic Canello has been named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for Sept. 2-8, 2013.
Canello, a Keystone Oaks High School graduate and native of Pittsburgh, Pa., who transferred this year from Slippery Rock University, scored a goal in Point Park's 1-1 tie at Wheeling Jesuit Sept. 5 and recorded a hat trick with an assist in a 9-2 win over Ohio Valley Sept. 7.
In Point Park's season opener at Wheeling Jesuit, Canello made his presence known early with a goal in the fourth minute. He also had a lot of early offense in the victory over Ohio Valley with all three of his goals coming the first half.
Canello leads the Pioneers with four goals and nine points through just two games. The Pioneers (1-0-1) get back into action Tuesday, Sept. 10 at home versus Salem International. Kickoff is 5 p.m. at Highmark Stadium, and admission is free.
Canello is the all-time leader in assists at his alma mater Keystone Oaks. He played in six games as a freshman at Slippery Rock and is a product of the Century United club.
