PITTSBURGH -- The KIAC Men's Soccer Offensive & Defensive Player of the Week awards for Sept. 30-Oct. 6 have gone to Point Park University forward Ousman Jaiteh and goalkeeper Derrik Whiten, respectively.
It was a big week for Point Park (6-5-1, 1-0-0 KIAC), which not only went unbeaten in three games, it also started its KIAC scheduled with a victory at Cincinnati Christian.
Jaiteh, a senior forward from The Gambia, West Africa, led a huge week of offensive numbers for Point Park. Jaiteh scored five goals in the three games, including a hat trick in the 11-0 win at CCU. He also tallied two goals in a 5-0, home win over Wittenberg.
Jaiteh had the most goals on the week for Point Park, which outscored its opponnents, 22-1, in the three games. He leads the Pioneers with eight goals and 17 points on the season.
Although the Pioneers had plenty of offense, Whiten didn't need much support. The sophomore from Vandergrift, Pa., and Kiski Area High School started every game and gave up just one goal in the three contests. The goal he gave up came on a penalty kick in the 6-1 victory over Thiel. Whiten has started the last 11 games with a record of 6-5.
Point Park has been off since beating Wittenberg at home Oct. 6. The Pioneers are in action again on Saturday, Oct. 12 with a KIAC home game versus Asbury (Ky.). Kickoff is 12 p.m. at Highmark Stadium.
