PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University senior midfielder Alex Sala was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 17 by the league office.
Sala, a native of Weiler, Austria, was deemed the top offensive player in the KIAC for games played the week of Sept. 10-16. Sala totaled two goals and four points on the week to lead Point Park (3-3 overall, 3-0 KIAC) to a pair of conference wins.
Sala scored the opening goal in Point Park's 2-1, double-overtime win at Asbury (Ky.) Sept. 14. He also made a key play in the second overtime when he deflected the ball over to Frazer McKinlay for the game-winning goal.
Sala capped the week with the go-ahead goal in the Pioneers' 3-2, comeback win at Brescia (Ky.) on Sept. 15. Point Park trailed, 2-0, at the half, and Sala's game-winner was the last of three goals in the second half.
Although the week also included a 1-0 home loss to Allegheny, Point Park did strong work on the weekend to extend its first-place KIAC record to 3-0.
Sala is a two-time all-conference first-team selection and also a team captain. He is tied for the team lead with three goals and has a team-high seven points.
The Pioneers are in action again on Friday when they visit Grove City (4 p.m.).
