Point Park beats Talladega, 4-1, will play for NAIA national bid Saturday

PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University scored four unanswered goals, two of which came from Matt Annecchiarico, to down Talladega (AL) College, 4-1, in an Unaffiliated KIAC/GCAC Tournament Semifinal game on Thursday at Cupples Stadium.
Point Park (10-6-0, 4-0-0), the No. 1 seed in the six-team, single-elimination event, advances to the tournament Finals on Sat., Nov. 10 when it will host No. 2 seed Asbury (Ky.) at 2 p.m. Asbury beat No. 3 seed Brescia, 2-1, in the other semifinal.
Saturday's championship-game winner will advance to the NAIA national tournament, which starts with the NAIA Opening Round Nov. 17.
Talladega (AL) (15-5) was the tournament's No. 4 seed and was playing out of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference.
Point Park will be playing in the conference finals for the second year in a row. The Pioneers lost to Roberts Wesleyan, 1-0, in the AMC Tournament Finals last year.
Talladega took the early lead on Jose Luis Rodriguez's free kick in the 13th minute. The one-goal deficit for Point Park proved within reach as the Pioneers not only tied things up on Annechiarico's goal in the 17th minute, but also scored two more goals before the half was through for a 3-1 halftime lead.
Romida Nanko gave the Pioneers the lead for good in the 26th minute. Just before the half, Annecchiarico's second goal of the game and 10th of the year stretched the margin out to two goals. Point Park's Ousman Jaiteh added another goal for good measure in 83rd minute.
Point Park held a 23-10 advantage in shots although only eight of Point Park's registered on goal. Mitchell Kelman made four saves as the goalkeeper for Point Park.
The fouls were one-sided as Talladega had 27 fouls compared to only 12 for the Pioneers. Talladega was whistled for 10 yellow cards and two red cards. Point Park was held to just one caution, which was a yellow cards.
