ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- Roberts Wesleyan College steadily built its lead throughout the game and ended up with a 3-0 win over visiting Point Park University in a non-conference men's soccer game Wednesday afternoon.
In a rematch of last year's American Mideast Conference Tournament Final also won by Roberts Wesleyan, the Raiders (1-2) took advantage of some breakdowns in the Point Park defense to stake a 2-0 lead by the time there was eight minutes gone in the second half.
Roberts Wesleyan added another goal in the 67th minute for good measure and a 3-0 lead. Point Park (0-2) was outshot, 20-6, and registered three shots on goal. Point Park stayed within 1-0 at the half despite being outshot, 11-4. The Pioneers did not have as much luck keeping the hosts off the scoreboard in the second half as they allowed two more goals while being out-shot, 9-2.
Point Park will be back in action Sept. 9 with it travels to Berea (Ky.) for its Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener. The Pioneers begin their home schedule Sept. 12 vs. Allegheny after playing its first three games on the road.
