ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The Point Park University men's indoor track and field team took home five individual placements to highlight its performance at the Mt. Union Jim Wuske Invitational on Saturday.
The meet went late into the night, and the final event came up big for the Pioneers. It was freshman Jryi Davis, from Bangor, Pa., placing third in the triple jump with a school-record leap of 13.49 meters. Not far behind was freshman Shaun Berry, from Shadyside Academy, in fifth place at 13.16 meters.
Davis just edged Berry for the Pioneers record in the triple jump. Berry jumped 13.48 meters last week at the SPIRE Midwest Open, a difference of one centimeter.
Berry led the Pioneers in the high jump with a leap of 1.88 meters, which resulted in fifth place. Davis led the Pioneers in the long jump at 6.03 meters for 11th place.
Christian Capers, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., broke his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95 seconds for a high finish of sixth place.
A final school record to fall came from Michael Beavis in the shot put. The senior from North Branford, Conn., had a toss of 10.19 meters, his best of the year.
Falonte Jackson earned another high placement in the 60-meter dash as the freshman from Cleveland, Ohio, was fourth with a time of 7.14 seconds. Jackson was 10th in the 200 meters at 23.40.
The Mt. Union meet marked the first time this year the Pioneers competed at a venue that had a 200-meter track. The previous three meets had been at 300-meter tracks. The tighter turns on Saturday led to slower times as is customary.
Alexander Vaughn led a host of Pioneers competitors in the 400-meter dash in ninth place at 52.90 seconds. Other leaders in that event for Point Park were Zachary Watt in 12th place (53.11) and Eric Biggs in 23rd (57.03).
Eric Torres ran the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:24.64 to place 10th. Chris Hunt competed in the mile at 5:12.72 to place 25th, and Heath Hougas ran the 800 with a time of 2:10.26 for 29th place.
