Point Park men's T&F competes at Cal U for first Outdoor Meet in team history

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- In the first-ever outdoor meet in the history of the program, the Point Park University men's track and field team had many standout performances at the Cal U Early Bird Meet on Saturday.
Leading the way was freshman Shaun Berry, from Shadyside Academy, who competed in all three jumping events and placed in two of them. Berry took third in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet, seven inches. He was also tied for sixth in the high jump at 5 feet, 8.75 inches. In the long jump, Berry placed 11th at 19 feet, 9.75 inches.
The triple jump also featured Point Park freshman Jryi Davis in fourth place at 42 feet, 9 inches.
Another high finish came from Alexander Vaughn in the 400 meters. The Trinity Christian graduate placed fourth with a personal-best time of 50.13 seconds. The winning time was 49.25 seconds.
Vaughn also led off the Pioneers' 4x400 meter relay team that placed eighth. Point Park was in first place after his leg. Vaughn competed in the 200 with a time of 23.04, which placed third on the team and 17th overall.
The 200 had three Point Park athletes in the top 20 with Falonte Jackson 12th (22.81 seconds), DeAnthony Morgan 15th (22.91) and Vaughn 17th.
Jackson also led the Pioneers in the 100 meters in a tie for seventh at 11.19. The winning time came in at 10.85. Morgan placed 13th in the 100 at 11.30.
The Pioneers' 4x100-meter relay team took fourth at 44.03 seconds. That was made up of Eric Biggs, Morgan, Christian Capers and Jackson.
It was a busy day for Biggs, who competed in five events. He led off the 4x100 relay, set a personal-best in the 200 meters and was also one of the Pioneers' top performers in all three jumping events.
The 800 meters had Chris Hunt lead Point Park in 10th place at 2:05.35. Heath Hougas led the Pioneers in the 1,500 meters in 14th place at 4:21.67 and also took 17th in the 800 meters at 2:07.21.
Christian Capers led Point Park in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 17.11 to place 12th.
Joshua Wright competed in the javelin and discus with a throw of 136 feet, 6 inches in the javelin to place 12th. he was 22nd in the discus with a toss of 98 feet, 2 inches. Michael Beavis' shot put of 30 feet, 5 inches was 37th.
