Point Park Men's Track & Field competes at Westminster Invitational on Saturday

Chris Hunt ran the 800 and 1500 for the Pioneers at Westminster on Saturday.


NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Point Park University men's outdoor track and field team scored in four events to place 13th at the Westminster Invitational on Saturday. There were seven team records set by the Pioneers, who are in their first year of competition.

The jumping events and the relays were highlights for Point Park, which totaled 19 points. Freshman Shaun Berry placed third in the high jump and broke his own school record with a height of 1.90 meters.

Jryi Davis placed fourth in triple jump at 13.06 meters. Berry was two places back in sixth with a leap of 12.71 meters.

Point Park scored in both relays with the 4x100 relay team placing fifth at 44.26. The 4x400 relay squad was eighth with a school-record time fo 3:33.32.

The 100 and 200 meters had DeAnthony Morgan pace Point park with 11th place in both races. His time of 22.77 in the 200 established a school record and broke his previous mark.

Eric Torres and Chris Hunt ran both the 800-meter and 1,500-meter races. Torres placed ninth and set a team record in the 1,500 at 4:16.82. Hunt was close behind at 4:19.04.

In the 800 meters, it was Hunt's turn to lead the way with a ime of 2:04.98 for 22nd place. That set a team record. Eric Torres finished next at 2:05.07 for 23rd place.

Throwers Josh Wright and Michael Beavis continued their improvements by breaking the records they held in the discus and shot put. Wright's discus toss of 33.36 set a team record as did Beavis' toss of 10.32 in the shot put.

The Pioneers have one more competition before the KIAC championships April 24-25. They visit the Slippery Rock Dave Labor Invitational this coming Saturday, April 18.
