Point Park Men's Track & Field places 2nd at KIAC Championship Meet

RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- Point Park University men's outdoor track and field placed second of five teams on Saturday at the KIAC Championship Meet hosted by the University of Rio Grande.
The Pioneers are in their first year of competition in track and field, and they had many strong performances at the KIAC Meet, which had Rio Grande win the team championship in first place.
Freshman distance runner Eric Torres won two events for Point Park -- the 10,000 meters and 5,000 meters. Torres, from Robstown, Texas, won the KIAC championship with a school-record time of 33:20 in the 10,000. He won the 5,000 with a time of 16:55.
Jryi Davis won the KIAC championship in the triple jump with a first-place leap of 13.33 meters. Teammate Shaun Berry was second in the triple jump at 13.29 meters to earn all-conference honors along with Davis.
Davis was all-conference in the long jump as well. He led the Pioneers with a jump of 6.24 meters to place third. Berry had a distance of 6.22 meters for fourth place.
DeAnthony Morgan earned All-KIAC recognition in the 100- and 200-meter dashes as he placed second in both events. Morgan finished the 100 with a time of 11.35. He had a time of 23.28 in the 200. Falonte Jackson was fourth in the 100 at 11.42. The 200 had Revon Davis and Eric Biggs place seventh and eighth, respectively.
Alex Vaughn picked up an all-conference selection by placing third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.20 seconds. Zachary Watt also competed in the 400 with a time of 53.41 for fifth place.
The Pioneers' 4x100 relay team of Jackson, Biggs, Watt and Morgan placed second. Their time was 44.86 seconds. The 4x800 relay team of John Wiley, Watt, Khalid Omar and Chris Hunt was also second with a time of 12:42.
Khalid Omar earned All-KIAC mention in the 800 meters with a time of 2:06.56. That was good for third place.
Hurdler Christian Capers was fourth in both the 110- and 400 hurdles with times of 15.94 and 1:03, respectively.
Thrower Michael Beavis established Point Park records in the shot put (10.70 meters, 5th place) and hammer throw (19.2 meters, 7th place). Josh Wright led the Pioneers in the javelin (36.34 meters, 6th place) and discus (31.25, 5th place).
