PITTSBURGH -- Point Park University was predicted to finish third in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Cross Country Preseason Poll released on Thursday (Aug. 14).

The Pioneers were picked third of 10 teams, which is where they finished last year at the KIAC Championship Meet. Point Park received 62 points in the voting conducted by the 10 KIAC head coaches.

Point Park returns four of its top five runners from a year ago and has also added a crop of talented newcomers who will be making an immediate impact on the top five spots on the team.

Defending KIAC champion Brescia (Ky.) is picked as the 2014 preseason favorite with 78 points and six of the 10 first-place votes. The other four first-place votes went to Asbury (Ky.) with 75 points. Asbury was second in KIAC Meet last year.

Last year's fourth-place KIAC finisher, Berea (Ky.), has left the conference, and IU East has moved up from fifth at the end of 2013 to a predicted fourth-place finish in the 2014 preseason poll.

KIAC newcomer Rio Grande, which was sixth in the Mid-South Conference last season, is picked fifth in the KIAC. The rest of the preseason poll is not much changed from the end of 2013 with Carlow, IU Kokomo, Midway (Ky.), Cincinnati Christian and Alice Lloyd (Ky.) making up the bottom five teams.

Point Park opens its 2014 season Aug. 29 at the Wooster (Ohio) Invitational.
