NORTH CANTON, Ohio -- The Point Park University men's and women's cross country teams competed Saturday at the Walsh University Invitational, and both teams came up with third-place finishes. There were five teams in the women's race and four in the men's race.
Dylan Grunn, a junior from Honesdale, Pa., was the top performer for the Point Park men as he placed seventh individually. Grunn finished the 5K race in 17:24.
Reuben Rono (18:48) was the next finisher for the Point Park men in 18th place. The Pioneers had their next runners bunched in the 19-minute range with Connor Mulvaney (19:20), Luke Shannon (19:33), Jon Rohlf (19:40) and Ian McIntosh (19:43).
Freshman Katie Johnston, from Newville, Pa., led the Point Park women with a time of 23:24 in the 5K race. She placed 14th, which was just before Keri Rouse (23:49) in 16th place and Christina Wisniewski (23:51) in 17th place.
Other scorers for the Point Park women were Lindsey Palmer (25:13) and Leah Bubeck (26:17).
Both Point Park teams have concluded the regular season and will compete in the Unaffiliated American Mideast Conference/American Midwest Conference Meet Nov. 5 in St. Louis Missouri. The Pioneers are competing in that event because their league, the American Mideast Conference, falls short of the required six schools needed to earn an automatic bid to nationals for the champion of its meet.
Instead, Point Park is entered in the Unaffiliated Meet, which will have its team champion and any qualifying individuals move on to the NAIA national meet Nov. 19 in Vancouver, Wash.
