Point Park University women's cross country -- 2010 season preview

Aug. 26, 2010

PITTSBURGH -- The Point Park University women's cross country team welcomes back in 2010 nearly every runner from last year's squad. The Pioneers will look to build on that foundation under seventh-year head coach Jim Irvin.

The Pioneers' top returners are juniors Lindsay Dill, from Erie., Pa., and Sarah Austin, from Sweet Valley, Pa. Dill and Austin have been Point Park's top performers the last two seasons. In 2009, Dill's best time in a 5K was 21:10 while Austin's best 5K race was a 21:46.

The most notable addition to Point Park's roster this year is Justine Michael (pictured above), a transfer from NCAA Division II Florida Southern. During her freshman season of 2009, the Gainesville, Fla., native, had a season-best time of 20:46 at Tampa.

Pittsburgh native Carina Jollie is back for her senior season, and she regularly was among Point Park's top three runners a year ago. Jollie came on strong late last year, and she established a career-best with a time of 22:19 at the season-ending AMC champioship meet.

Other top returning veterans (with best '09 times in parenthesis) are junior Leticia Henry (23:37), sophomore Leah Bubeck (24:21), junior Martine Saul (24:26) and sophomore Kayleigh Townsend (28:52).

Additional newcomers are Keri Rouse from Greensburg, Lyndsay Monaco from Chesterfield, Ohio, Becky Lessner from Fawn Grove, Pa., and Carleigh Dettorre from Hummelstown, Pa.

Point Park began preseason training on Aug. 16 in preperation for its season opener at Westminster Sept. 4. The Pioneers have seven meets scheduled this year, culminating with the American Mideast Conference championship meet Nov. 6 at Houghton.
