Point Park women's cross country opens season at Westminster, Goodsell takes 8th
Sept. 3, 2011
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Point Park University opened its women's cross country season Saturday at the Fisher Invitational hosted by Westminster College, and the Pioneers were led by newcomer Ashley Goodsell's eighth-place finish. As a team, Point Park finished 12th of 17 teams, and the field consisted of 188 runners.
The women's race started at 10 a.m., and although it was not quite as hot as when the men's race started an hour later, the heat was certainly a factor. Goodsell's time of 24 minutes, 45 seconds in the 6K put her as the 8th finisher overall.
Goodsell (pictured) is in her first year running for Point Park although she was a top player for the Pioneers' women's soccer team the last two years. She is a graduate student who used all four years of her soccer eligibility already.
Also running a strong race was senior Lindsay Dill, whose time of 25:39 was batter than any 6K she ran last year. Dill, from Erie, Pa., placed 21st.
The next finishers for the Pioneers were sophomore Keri Rouse (29:16), freshman Lindsey Palmer (33:10) and senior Leah Bubeck (34:17).
